Tom Gross received his MD and PhD degrees from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1988. His PhD thesis was on mechanisms of B-cell transformation by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). After completing a residency in pediatrics in 1991, Dr. Gross went on to complete a bone marrow transplantation and immunology fellowship at the University of Minnesota in 1993. His fellowship research was on EBV-associated post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease (PTLD). In 1993, he became an Assistant Professor in Pathology and Pediatrics at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. In 1998, he accepted an appointment as Associate Professor at University of Cincinnati and Director of the Bone Marrow Transplantation Program at Children’s Hospital Medical Center of Cincinnati. In 2002, Dr. Gross accepted his most recent appointment as Chairman of Pediatric Cancer at Ohio State University and Director of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Children’s Hospital of Columbus. He presently operates a research laboratory where he investigates EBV-associated diseases, and actively conducts clinical trials in the treatment of PTLD.
